This departement, which has inspired the painter Cézanne, is one of vast contrasts, from the Alpilles mountains, the Sainte Victoire and the Sainte Baume to the famous villages of Tarascon , Les Baux de Provende, Saint Paul lez Durance and Aix en Provence) an to the Camargue, well known for the horses and the bulls (you can see typical Ferias in Arles) and the annual meeting place for gypsies in Saintes Maries de la Mer.

Villas facing the crystalline blue of the splits, farmhouses and country houses with green olive shades on the shutters and limed colourful facades, are the strong accents of the south.

The Bouches du Rhone are also well known for their santons fabrics.

The Calanques

Nearly 20 km. long and 4 km. wide, with cliffs rising up till 400 meters, the Calanques are stretching from Marseille to Cassis.
