Aix was the capital of Provence in the 15th century, you can see noble Provence residences of the17th and 18th centuries, architecture that has been carefully preserved and restored, strolling all along the Cours Mirabeau, rue Gaston de Saporta.

Aix has inspired several writers and painters: Guigou, Stendhal, Mistral, Zola, and Cézanne.
