The Dream of living and working in the South of France often seemed just that, a dream. A dream that couldn’t be realised, not for financial reasons, but simply because the whole process of getting here seemed too big to contemplate. We live here now, we have a business and a lifestyle that neither of us would consider swapping and the procedure for getting established in France became a step by step assisted passage thanks to the massive help of First French property and particularly their French representative Valerie Joie. Nothing has ever been too much trouble for Valerie. On our first visit, no more than a reconnaissance, Valerie met us at a Toll Booth so that we could follow her and thus avoid us getting lost in a region we knew little of. She compensated for our lack of French with her near fluent use of English and her range of contacts helped us to deal with the bureaucracy of house buying in France. Valerie found for us, an independent financial adviser, a helpful bank, a link with the local selling estate agent and even good quality, low cost bed and breakfast accommodation. She attended every meeting acting as our interpreter and advisor, she guided us step by step through the moves we needed to make and she did it all in good humour and totally professionally. She kept in regular contact with us by E.Mail and telephone whilst we were in the Uk thus reducing our need to spend too much time in France whilst we were selling up in England. You wouldn’t be normal if you didn’t have any fears about making such a momentous life style change but with the help of First French and Valerie you can be certain that they will not allow you to make a mistake. We were mightily impressed by the service we received but we have been thrilled and shocked by the continued service we are receiving. Having moved in, Valerie has assisted us on a shopping trip to buy a fridge, helped us get the internet up and running, translated a variety of documents and has never stopped offering us advice and help whenever we have required it. We now live in the sunshine of Provence, we have a beautiful Gites and Chambre D’hote business and we are happily settling into French Life. Learning French bit by bit is fun, but difficult, but learning to enjoy the pace of life, the new climate and the support of the provencal people is a true pleasure. We now no longer regard Valerie and her family as estate agents but as good friends in our new country.
