Les Mees
The village of Les Mées owes its notoriety to the narrow
pinnacle of rocks
rising up more than 100 metres high behind the village. The name
of this rock feature is the
"Pénitents des Mées" because of their silhouette.
The legend relates .... "the rock look likes a procession of
monks who have been petrified during the Saracen invasions, and they
were punished because they fell in love with the "Moresque"
women that a feudal lord brought back from a crusade".
All around in the countryside are fields of olive trees. Les Mées
is also well known for its olive oil production that has won
several prizes.
