Capital of Roman Provence, Vaison la Romaine is interesting from an archaeological point of view;

Situated on the banks of the river, you will find, on the right bank, the site of the ancient Roman colony and the modern town. Immense, luxurious, and elaborate Gallo Roman homes have been discovered here, with mosaics, marbles, statues, and private thermal baths, on the left bank is the Medieval “Haute-Ville”, from the 13th c. where the villagers were settling in the heights at the foot of the castle to protect themselves from robbers and invasion.

Not far from Vaison La Romaine you will admire the Mont Ventoux and the famous mountains Dentelles de Montmirail.
